Most players don’t think twice about the cue stick they use when playing
billiards. This is especially true when someone plays a game in a pool hall. It
is common to pick up any cue stick available and play a game. As advanced
billiard players know, the cue stick that you use will have a direct impact on
the success of your game. Most cue sticks measure between 57 and 58 inches in
length. The length of a cue stick is to be considered, as you should choose a
cue stick that is comparable to your height and arm span. In addition to the
length of the cue stick, you should also consider the weight of your preferred
cue stick as well. The majority of cue sticks weigh between 18 and 21 ounces.
Choose a cue stick that feels comfortable in your grip.
Cue sticks are mainly crafted from wood, however, many newer sticks have
overlays in granite or fiberglass. When selecting cue sticks, you’ll need to
choose between models that are built in one solid piece or those that are
connected through joints that can then be disassembled. These cue sticks can be
taken apart, maintained and cleaned, and then stored in a case. The main parts
of a cue stick include the bumper, the joint, and the shaft.
When choosing cue sticks, look for those that are straight. If a cue is crooked,
bent, or warped you won’t get an accurate aim. To determine whether or not a cue
stick is straight or crooked lay it on the billiard table and roll it. A warped
or crooked cue stick will wobble when rolled; making it plain to see that it is
warped or crooked. By taking the time to choose your cue stick carefully, you
can rest assured that you select the best stick for your game.
